The Gorge

isn't nature wonderful. . . a bird drops a seed anywhere and everywhere and looks what can happen.

See, the minion is right, that padding we gripe and groan about comes in handy many a time in life.

the Gorge;  a Sandstone mountain in Nevada

The Gorge

A new road to follow
new sights to see
underground aquifers
set water free
green meadows abound
spring calves gamboling around

small towns so ancient
you go back in time
progress has missed them
and peace is found

sandstone mountains
caves and caverns
pinnacles high
resisting time
rain, snow and sleet
leave rivulets to see
as the sandstone hardens
in the heat

billions of years slowly eroding
sandstone mountains crackle and craze
making families of faces, natures parade

the road goes on endlessly
as far as the eye can see
and when each what you thought was the end
the road goes on endlessly again
funky bars, ranches old
gas pumps with prices gold
familiar signs
you're closer to home
roadside pebble names you have seen before
but never stop to add your own
Your home still standing
open the door
put on the kettle and have some tea
then sit back, relax with your memories

I hope you enjoy my story poem today.    I wrote that after a trip to Las Vegas for a convention some years back.  My friends, Bob and Adele, decided to take a back road out of Las Vegas to Carson City and we came upon the gorge where we stopped to have a break.    I had never been to this part of Nevada and it was awesome.   It was like stepping back in time.  Some folks say Nevada is not a beautiful state but an ugly one and I beg to differ.  Nevada is a beautiful state with a little bit of something special for everyone.   You can find such beauty in the high desert country.

So when you plan a trip somewhere, keep Nevada in mind.   You will find at trip to please the eye, and the palate.

We have a weekend coming up and if the weather stays like it is right this minute you will not hear one unkind word about the drop from ninety degrees to sixty degrees....sweater weather...ah!!!  It is laundry day for me so I am going to get busy, get my chores done and head outside for a cool walk around the block...I would invite you to join me but I know you have a fetish about sleeping in.   Well, wake up sleepy head, get up and get out there and enjoy the early morning.  Get out there and join the birds and the bees and it will put a smile on your face, love in your heart and the makings of a special day.  Hugs to all.
