Naval --Undersea

I'd share an apple straddle with you if I had one, then you could sit back with your coffee, tea, latte or drink of your choice and listen to my tales of the trip we took yesterday to the Naval Undersea Museum.

It is located in Keyport, Washington on the outskirts of Silverdale an hours drive away.    The road to the museum is a two lane highway and both sides of the road are huge tree lined and have weeds grown into tall trees.   Some of the weeds grow up to be really pretty and decretive.  When you get to the main road leading in to the museum it is wide and well paved as well as being well advertised.   A free museum and there were a lot of visitors yesterday.   We were eight elderly ladies with our driver, Sandy, who is an excellent driver and knows her way around this neck of the woods.  But, before I go on about the museum itself we had a lunch stop at the Red Apple restaurant which must be a good half block long, with booths and tables .  It was crowded.   We were set up with two tables pulled together;   coffee mugs on the table;   glasses of water appeared as if by magic and the waitress had menus in our hand before we had a chance to pull our chairs in.   The waiter was back within minutes, orders taken and the food served within minutes.   How they do this with such alacrity I'll never now.   The food is excellent, delicious, more than you can eat at one sitting and even priced right.   A good place to keep in mind if you are hungry.   Now I know why they had a line waiting to get in.   A popular restaurant.

The Naval Undersea Museum is huge and the front is all glass.    Two docents are at the door ready with a brochure, words of wisdom and a smile or two.   One was sure to tell us where the ladies room was;  guess he must have an older sister or a mother our age and knows how fast coffee travels in the system.    We followed a short corridor to a huge room with covered walls of posters and pictures on information about old and new technology.    Glass cases filled with 'things' of importance to those who  know about submarines and history.    It is an official U.S.. Navy museum.    There are exhibits of all kinds;   The collection of  information, bombs, inner submarine rooms, televised histories and all the paraphilia that goes with any museum was there to in hale and try to understand. there are exhibits , maps, and so much information on the ocean environment with microscopes to see starfish and other plankton of the sea. They covered the ocean environment, Undersea Weapons and Submarine technology.

I was interested in the deep sea diver exhibits.  Son John was a Navy diver .   I thought of him a lot as I read about some of the exploits of the divers, the differences in the diving suits and knew he would be amazed at all of the growth and changes since he put his Navy time in some years ago.    If he hasn't had a chance to visit this museum, you can be sure it will be a must when he next visits this area.  I would probably learn a lot more about what he actually did when he was deep sea diving and playing with sharks and whales..

The torpedoes were scary.   I sure wouldn't want to be a victim of one.   I took a couple of pictures with Pat's camera and she will put them on the computer and I can show them to you when I get them.    All in all the museum is well worth your time and efforts.   You will discover, as we did, how little we actually know.   We couldn't live long enough to know all we have at our fingertips.    the older I get the more I realize how little I really do know.

On our trip back to Ridgemont, we traveled some back roads and got to see some of the huge homes in the area.   Some folks live like Kings.   The acreage they own is much and the upkeep must be tremendous.   Some of the homes must have four or five bedrooms and as many bathrooms....and all I can think of, is Thank God I don't have to clean them.    Well, I guess if you can afford those houses you can afford to have hired help to keep them up.    I see gluttony but then each one has to live as they choose even if it is a tiny house which seems to be a favorite these days.

So, should you decide to vacation this way and stop off to see me, and the girls, we will be more than glad to escort you to this wonderful museum or at least tell you how to get there.

Think about a museum in your neck of the woods.   I wonder if you have been to see any lately, if not, why not?   A good way to spend a few of your seconds and you really do learn a lot.    Make a date, call a friend to join you and go off to the nearest museum and spend a few learning hours.    History is a fascinating subject with thousands of new and different subject within to learn all about.  Actually, we do learn something every day.    Add your new information to your good deed skills and make your day memorable.    Share YOU and make your world a better place.   Hugs to all.
